January 2 - January 4

Physical Education: 

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

1st, 3rd, 4th, and 7th Periods - Floor Hockey - Students will take part in floor hockey lead up activities to work on their skills and play small-sided floor hockey games in the gymnasium.

2nd and 5th Periods - Fitness and Cooperative Games - Students will take part in agility, quickness, and muscular strength fitness tests.  While students are tetsting, the other students will take part in cooperative games in the gymnasium such as basketball, badminton, volleyball, floor hockey, soccer, or football.

Volleyball Unit - Students will be split up into 2 or 4 teams depending on class size and will play small-sided volleyball games.   Students who are having trouble applying the volleyball skills (bumping, setting, serving) to game play will be pulled aside to practice the skills.

 Wednesday 11/21 - Half day.  Students will only need sneakers due to shortened periods and will take part in basketball or walking activities.  HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING!

                                                    (7th Grade) - Swimming- Students will be doing a variety of swimming activities in the pool. 

** Students in all grades will start the 3rd and final unit of the marking period on Thursday, March 1.  The last unit will conist of physical fitness stations in the gymnasium where students will rotate and perform numerous cardiovascular, muscular strength, muscular endurance, aerobic, and flexibility moves.**

Health:  -  Students will be learning about mental health disorders through a group activity in class.  Also, students will begin discussing the body systems of the human body. 

Physical Education: - (8th - 10th Grade) - Weight Room/Weight Training - Students will be doing muscular strength exercises in the weight room.

Health:  -  Students will be learning about mental health disorders by completing a mini-project.  Students will be partnered up and will be asked to research a given mental health disorder in the library.  From there, students will create a poster on their findings and present their material to the rest of the class.  Students will be graded from a 50 point scoring rubric

Physical Education: - (8th - 10th Grade) - Weight Room/Weight Training - Students will be doing muscular strength exercises in the weight room.

Health:  -  Students will be taking their first exam worth 85 points.  The exam will consist of questions related to the health triangle triangle, handling stress, and wellness.  Also, students will be discussing bullying issues and mental health disorders for the remainder of the week.

Health:  -  Students will begin discussing issues related to teenagers balancing their health triangle which consists of physical, mental, and social health.  Related to the material, students will be working on a writing prompt where they will be asked to identify personal weaknesses in physical, mental, and social health.  Students will be asked to set personal goals with the hope of becoming an overall healthier person.  Students will be graded on a 100 point scoring rubric.  

Physical Education: - Volleyball  - Students will work on volleyball skills such as bumping, setting, spiking, and serving during in class activities.  Also, students will apply the volleyball game skills to small sided games

Monday, January 16 - Teacher In-Service - No School

Health:  -  (End of 2nd Marking Period) - Students will be presenting their STD power-point to the rest of the class.  Students who are not presenting will be taking notes during each presentation.  Students will be graded off of a 70 point scoring rubric.  Students will also be receiving their final grades.

(Start of 3rd marking Period) - Students will begin discussing issues related to teenagers balancing their health triangle which consists of physical, mental, and social health.   

Physical Education:   

(End of 2nd Marking Period) - Students will be finishing their unit in the pool.  Swimming unit was cut short due to mid-term week, but we will be going back to the pool later in the year.

MID-TERM Week
 
Health:  -  Students will be presenting their STD power-point to the rest of the class.  Students who are not presenting will be taking notes during each presentation.  Students will be graded off of a 70 point scoring rubric.

Physical Education:   

Short Periods - Only need sneakers and will be taking part in activities in the gymnasium. 

Extendeded Periods - Students will need gym clothes and swimming clothes.  Students will be taking part in activities in the gymnasium as well as swimming in the pool.  Students will be working on various swimming strokes in the pool (front-crawl, under-water swimming, back-crawl, breaststroke, and side-stroke.) The swimming unit will last 3 weeks and the studens will be recquired to change in order to receive full credit.  Swimming suits, towells, and a t-shirt during attendance will be recquired. 

 If students do not make up missed classes, they will receive zeros.
