January 2 - January 6

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Health:  -  STD Power-Point Project in Library - Students will be assigned an individual STD to research with a partner.  Partners will create a powre-point and present it to the rest of the class.  Students will be graded off of a 100 point scoring rubric. 

Physical Education:   (7th - 10th Grade) - SWIMMING UNIT - Students will be working on various swimming strokes in the pool (front-crawl, under-water swimming, back-crawl, breaststroke, and side-stroke.) The swimming unit will last 3 weeks and the studens will be recquired to change in order to receive full credit.  Swimming suits, towells, and a t-shirt during attendance will be recquired.

 If students do not make up missed classes, they will receive zeros.

Physical Education:   Students will be finishing their soccer unit by playing small sided soccer games and kick-ball games.  The first marking period will end on Tuesday, November 1 so students will be receiving report grades.

PE:   Students will be completing the first unit in cardiovascular fitness.  Students will be asked to do a minimum of 4 laps each day and will be officially timed in the 1 Mile on the last day of the unit.  On Wednesday, September 21, we will be starting our football unit.  To start, students will be taught the basic cues for throwing and receiving a football.  They will practice the skills through activities during class.

PE:   Students will be continuing with the cardiovascular unit which involves walking, jogging, and running on the track.  Students will be building up their cardiovascular endurance by gradually increasing the amount of laps they jog/run each day.  Students will be asked to do a minimum of 4 laps each day and will be officially timed in the 1 Mile on the last day of the unit.

Health:  - Students will be starting and working on their writing prompts in class and in the library.  The writing prompt involves the health triangle which is a combination of physical, mental, and social health.  Students will be asked to identify weaknessess in each category and set goals with the hope of improving their flaws.  Rough and final drafts will be submitted for grading purposes and this will be the first major grade in the class.

Monday, September 5 - Off for Labor Day

PE:   Students will be begin the cardiovascular unit which involves walking, jogging, and running on the track.  For the first few days of the unit, students will be doing a combination of walking and jogging with the hope of building long distance endurance.  Students will be asked to do a minimum of 4 laps each day and on the last day of the unit, they will be timed/graded on their 1 mile time.

Health:  - Students will be learning about the Health Triangle which is made up of Mental, Physical, and Social health.  Students will understand the importance of balancing the three sides of the health triangle in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Students will be taking notes, doing worksheets, and taking part in in-class activities that invovle the topics being discussed in class.

PE:  Students will be learn the rules, regulations, and expectations for Physical Education class.  Students will be given an assigned seat in the gymnasium where they will report for attendance at the beginning of each class.  Each student will be given a class expectation sheet that will be signed by every student and at least one parant.  Students will be begin the cardiovascular unit which involves walking, jogging, and running on the track.

PE:  Dodge Ball or Physical Fitness Activities in Weight Room - Students will have the option of participating in dodge ball games in the gymnasium or going to the weight room to do muscular strength, cardiovascular, and agility exercises.  Dodgeball tournament for 11th and 12th graders will take place before we let out for Easter Break.  Please let me know if you want to play!

                     Tuesday - Friday -  Students will be watching Philadelphia, an educational health movie that focuses on the impact AIDS had on the American Society.  Students will complete a worksheet associated with the movie where they will be asked to compare the differences between AIDS/STD's in the 1990's with today.

PE:  Students will be participating in Personal Fitness Stations.  The stations will involve cardiovascular, aerobic, agility, and muscular strength/endurance exercises.

Health:  Students will be working on their Mental Wellness Writing Prompts that involves the Health Triangle.  The Health Triangle is made up of 3 sides which conist of Physical, Mental, and Social health.  The students will choose one weakness from each area of the health triangle and explain ways to improve their weaknesses with the hope of achieving a healthier lifestyle.  Final drafts will be submitted at the end of the week for a grade.

January 24 - January 28

PE:  Pool (8th, 9th, and 10th Grade) - Students will be working on various swimming strokes in the pool (front-crawl, back-crawl, breaststroke, and side-stroke.) The swimming unit will last 3 weeks and the studens will be recquired to change in order to receive full credit.  Swimming suits, towells, and a t-shirt during attendance will be recquired.

Weight-room (11th and 12th Grade) - Students will be doing muscular strength exercises in the weight-room.  Students will be recquired to do at least 8 different exercises each day.  Also, they will be recquired to complete a workout sheet that proves they did at least 8 exercises with 2 sets of 8 repetitions.

Health:  Students will be learning about the Health Triangle which is made up of Mental, Physical, and Social health.  Students will understand the importance of balancing the three sides of the health triangle in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

January 17 - January 21

PE:  Pool - Studetns will be starting their swimming unit.  The swimming unit will last 3 weeks and the studens will be recquired to change in order to receive full credit.  Swimming suits, towells, and a t-shirt during attendance will be recquired.

Health:  Tuesday (2nd Marking Period) - Students will be working on an Emergency Contraception worksheet and will be receiving their final grades in Health.

Wednesday - Friday (3rd Marking Period) - Students will learn the rules, regulations, and expectations for Health Class.  Seating charts will be assigned and we will begin discussing the Health Triangle which involves Mental, Social, and Physical Health.

January 10 - January 13

MID TERM WEEK

Health:  Students will present their STD power-point projects to the rest of the class.  The STD project/presentation will be the last major grade for Health Class.

PE:  (9 - 12th Grade) - Students will be in the Weight-Room for Physical Education.  Students will be given a workout sheet and will be asked to record their exercises, sets, and repetitions.  Studetns will be asked to do at least 8 exerices during the period with at least 2 sets of 8 repetitions.

        (8th Grade) - Students will be completing their Health/PE Writing Prompts on the Muscular System.  The writing prompts will be subitted and graded for the final grade of the 2nd marking period.
